What is Model United Nations (MUN)?

Model United Nations is a student-led simulation of the real United Nations. It empowers students to research, debate, and craft resolutions on today’s most pressing global issues. Delegates represent assigned countries, debating from their nation's perspective in committee sessions using official UN-style procedures.
Through MUN, students gain a strong foundation in public speaking, diplomacy, international relations, and collaboration. These skills then prepare them for leadership in an increasingly globalized world.
How Does an MUN Conference Work?
Each delegate is assigned a country and a specific committee. Before the conference, students research their country’s stance on relevant topics. During committee sessions, they debate, negotiate, and draft resolutions while advocating for their nation’s interests. The goal: to reach collaborative solutions while respecting the complexity of global politics.

Our Journey
In 2011, King's Christian Collegiate launched its Model United Nations program under the leadership of Geography teacher Mr. Oussoren. Over the past 14 years, it has evolved into a thriving extracurricular activity, offering students numerous opportunities to participate in both local and international MUN conferences.
Building on a decade of successful events, we are excited to announce plans for another fully in-person King’sMUN conference. This year’s event will feature a variety of regular committees for students in Grades 7–12, accommodating novice, intermediate, and advanced delegates. In addition, we will once again offer a select number of tutorial committees, specially designed to introduce Grade 7–8 students to the world of MUN in a supportive and engaging environment.
COMMITTEES
Fierce Debate At Every Level
Regular Committees
Our conference includes several committees designed for students from Grades 7-12, catering to novice, intermediate, and advanced delegates. Each group will tackle complex global issues through in-depth research and debate.
Tutorial Committees
Tutorial Committees are specially designed for students new to MUN, particularly those in Grades 7–8 and beginner Grade 9 students. These committees mirror the structure of a traditional MUN committee while offering extra guidance, support, and mentorship from experienced chairs.
In tutorial sessions, students learn how to:
-
Navigate an MUN conference
-
Research their country’s position effectively
-
Debate with confidence
-
Draft and negotiate resolutions
Specialized Committees
Specialized Committees offer a unique twist on traditional MUN by exploring non-standard topics, historical events, crisis simulations, or even fictional scenarios. These committees often feature faster-paced debate, creative problem-solving, and unconventional formats that challenge delegates to think on their feet. Whether you're navigating a Cold War crisis, responding to an alien invasion, or rewriting the outcome of a historical moment, specialized committees are where diplomacy meets imagination, making them a favourite for experienced and adventurous delegates alike.
